A true essence of faith can come from the most amazing of places. Yesterday, I received a dose of real faith… it inspired me and awakened me! I never thought I would find it where I did.
Driving around Vermont yesterday, enjoying one of the first warm and beautiful sunny days of New England spring, my friend and I stumbled upon a Historical Site we just felt guided to check out.
Both of us being extremely spiritual and opened minded decided that the birth place of Joseph Smith Jr., the prophet who iniated the rise of the Mormon Faith, was worth checking out. So we drove up to this sacred temple and historical marker hoping to just walk around the grounds and enjoy the sun.
We drove in and parked the car at 4:44 in the afternoon, we had 16 minutes to enjoy this place … according to the sign … before the grounds would close for the evening. Yet, when we got out of the car, we were greeted with the most sweet and gentle man, dressed nicely in a suit. He introduced himself to us as Elder Williams
He greeted us warmly and took his time explaining the history of the prophet and how he came to create the Book of Mormon. An interesting story it was, and one that I can honor, yet not completely understand. I was a little concerned for a moment, as he spoke about his belief, that he may become a little persuasive in bringing us to his belief system.
What struck me as he spoke though was not what he said but the amazing sound of faith in his belief. He smiled with love and his eyes teared everytime he spoke of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I knew by looking at this man, Elder Williams believed he was close to a beautiful and holy energy and he honored and held tight to that belief. I walked away from this expereince with two amazing things I did not expect.
I gained education and insight into a belief I had not explored. From a spiritual perspective, I have worked to learn and honor all beliefs for they all achieve the same outcome.
The most important thing I took away was not what you believe in, but how much faith you need to have in what you believe in. Elder Williams taught me to love my faith with complete abandon and utmost respect. I will carry this inspiration to my faith and hopefully inspire you to do the same!
Elder Williams also told us to ask God/Creator what would be best for us to believe and he will never lead us wrong. Again with beautiful tears in his eyes. It occured to me, in any situation we are unsure of our choice, we simply need to ask Creator for what is in our best to do… and he will always lead us to true faith!
Will I change my personal spiritual faith because of Elder Williams … no. But I will have stronger faith in my personal spirituality, knowing that my guides and angels are beside me always… to them my loving gratitude. I will have faith in myself, that I am my personal life prophet.
Thanks Elder Williams!
Many Blessings
Lauren Ellen
